Longevity Awards Proposal: Recommend Credits of Service Awards, to be presented at the Annual Adjunct Faculty Dinner. Recommend awards at the following milestones:
50 credits or 20 Semesters 100 credits or 30 Semesters 150 credits or 40 Semesters 200 credits or 50 Semesters *All are "whichever comes first" and semesters are Fall, Spring, Summer Terms by Colleague standards.
Sue is going to pull data on current number of semesters and credits taught by all current faculty (Fall 2008/Spring 2009 active adjunct faculty). This data may help us revise the table.
We will "catch everyone up" on May 12 at the Adjunct Dinner. Again, Sue will generate lists.
Awards to include: Service pin and possibility of CSM branded material, bookstore discount or voucher. Sue to explore.
Considerations for the Future: Credit-free longevity awards.
Discussed Placement in Rank for Adjuncts. Sue will discuss with Dr. Tervala.
Discussed Tuition Assistance Benefits for Adjuncts. Suggestions for "Scholarship Competition" and Endowment were well received. Sue and Chris Ripley will work on this. Your comments and suggestions are welcome.
Extending tuition waivers for adjuncts to subsequent semester.
1) We need to find out how the waivers work for senior citizens and permanent faculty. Are seats limited to just extra seats after a class fills? How are they flagged in Colleague as eligible for tuition waivers?
2) Should we tie the extended semester benefit to being in the Certification Program (kind of a perk for committing to certification — that you get an extension on tuition waiver?)
3) Does my.csmd.edu solve the problem of flagging in Colleague?
4) Frame our argument using these benefits to the college: a) Recruitment tool b) Retention tool — adjuncts who stay connected to CSM during off semesters are more likely to return. c) Master class mindset — adjuncts learn about teaching & CSM policies from role of student.
5) We wanted to make sure there was no limit on what types of courses were included. We don't want adjuncts to have to take classes that only relate to the field they teach.
6) We don't know how many adjuncts are using the benefit as is or how many would use it if it was extended. Do we need to know this before writing a proposal?
Sue — maybe you have access to some of the info we need. Or maybe you know who would have it :)
